Attention Community Schools! Become a Host Site for AmeriCorps!

posted Mar 1, 2017, 10:55 AM by admin orgserve   [ updated Mar 1, 2017, 11:08 AM ]

In preparation for the 2017-2018 school year, the Office of Community Schools is releasing the AmeriCorps Host Site Application.  OCS, in partnership with NYC Service, has submitted a proposal for continued funding and is awaiting award announcements from the federal government.  In the meantime, we are moving ahead with our plans to place members at community schools.  There are a few changes you will notice from previous years:

·         All interested schools/ CBOs must apply and be selected by OCS to host AmeriCorps members

·         Host sites may request up to 8 AmeriCorps members to serve at one school

·         All members will serve as Success Mentors

·         Host sites will contribute between $1,650 and $3,000 toward the cost of each member placed at their school

Please review the application carefully and join us for a webinar on March 8th at 10:30 to answer any additional questions you may have. For the webinar link please contact Jessica Simonson at jsimonson@schools.nyc.gov.

Submit any questions to americorpscs@schools.nyc.gov by March 10th.

CSDs focus on Action Planning in August

posted Aug 11, 2016, 11:27 AM by Elizabeth Bird   [ updated Aug 11, 2016, 11:46 AM ]

August 2 CSD Action Planning Workshop:  On August 2nd, CSDs were invited to participate in an action planning workshop designed using a peer collaborative learning framework.  The session helped CSDs start strong by focusing on strategies for re-introducing the CS model to their school community.  CSDs created SMART goals, action plans, and calendars of key events; all in service of implementing the Community School model successfully.  Through it all, CSDs were able to learn best practices for their peers and incorporate these findings into their work.  All materials (power points, actions planning templates, SMART goal guides, and more) can be found HERE.  If you have any questions or need additional support, please reach out to your program managers.
