FREE WiFi Wireless Hotspots through Public Libraries!

In partnership with the Public Library systems of NYC (NY, Brooklyn, and Queens), Community Schools is launching a special program to distribute up to 5,000 wireless hotspots.  These devices will provide FREE internet, and they are perfect for connecting families who don’t have access at home.

Families who “check out” a WiFi hotspot from their local library will be able to keep the device for the entire school year.

How Can I Connect My Families to Library Events?

There are 75+ libraries participating throughout NYC, hosting hundreds of events. Finding out when and where they happen is easy:

We’re already prepared translated outreach announcements for families that are ready for you to send home.  Families are not limited to events near their school - they can attend any event in any borough.  To find out more, including information on upcoming events, you can visit the library system in your borough:

Please note that registration is required to attend a WiFi hotspot lending event, and each of these pages provides registration information.  Since this is only open to families who lack internet access at home, we encourage parents or caregivers to register at their local public library, or to check in with the Community School Director at their school for support.

What Families Qualify to Receive a FREE Hotspot?

The program is open to parents and caregivers with public library cards who:

·         Are at least 18 years old and support a child in a New York City public school (students who are 18 may borrow on their own);

·         Have no household Internet access at the time of sign-up;

·         Have a valid adult library card with less than $15 fines in fines.

Translations are available here for the forms HERE.
