What is NYC Service?

Launching in 2009, NYC Service aims to inspire and empower all New Yorkers to serve NYC and each other. NYC Service promotes volunteerism, engages New Yorkers in service, builds volunteer capacity and mobilizes the power of volunteers and national service members to impact New York City’s greatest needs. They primarily focus on education, economic opportunity, environment, health and emergency management.

How does NYC Service help Community Schools?

The partnership between OCS and NYC Service is on-going and ever-changing. Currently, NYC Service provides support in two areas:
  1. Americorps VISTA members, provided by NYC Service, serve in the main Office supporting and working in various projects such as Youth Leadership Initiative,  students in temporary housing, partnerships, and data collecting.
  2. NYC Service helps recruit and hire employees to assist DOHMH and Warby Parker in the vision screenings currently happening in all 227 Community Schools.
