2nd Annual Community Schools Video Contest

This year, we are honored to partner with the Museum of Moving Images and Adobe to bring the 2nd Annual Community Schools Video Contest to communities across New York City.

We are calling ALL AND ANY COMMUNITY MEMBERS  interested to participate.

This year’s contest will have three parts:  

The Moving Image StoryLab

Date: April 27th

Time: 3-7pm

Location: Museum of the Moving Image

*Given the limited space at MoMI, registration will be first come, first served.

The Moving Image StoryLab will be a public lab-style session led by MoMI Teaching Artists and Adobe Spark instructors.

Attendees will receive an introduction to video storytelling and personalized coaching in their video development.

Potential coaching support in:  

  • Video production

  • Adobe Spark platform

  • Feedback on created content

  • Outlining next steps

This session is open to all including- students, school staff, parents, artists, community members, non-profit partners, etc



Submit your video by May 16th for “light touch” feedback from a MoMI Teaching Artist.

The FINAL DEADLINE for video submissions is May 23rd 11:59pm EST.

Submission Guidelines: COMING SOON!

Any member of the Community Schools network (including students, teachers, family members, community partners and Lead CBOs) is welcome to submit entries

Videos could center on topics such as unsung heroes, uncharted local histories, or fictional stories inspired by everyday life.  

All cinematic styles are encouraged, including:

  • Drama

  • Comedy

  • Horror

  • Documentary

  • Action

  • Musical

  • Superhero

  • Animation

  • Visual poems

  • Etc...

ALL participants and locations MUST have signed consent forms, which are found here.

Up to 10 Finalists will be chosen by a special panel. Judging criteria located here.

“Works in Progress” Screening and Panel

Date: June 2nd

Time: 10am-2pm

Location: Museum of the Moving Image

RSVP link will be sent  to the Finalists and their crew.

The Museum of the Moving Image will host a special “Works in Progress” screening for all 10 finalists.

A panel of special Guest Judges will host a special talk-back session discussing 3 previously chosen finalist videos.

The “Works in Progress” viewing and panel will be open to all finalists and their crew- including participants, the filmmakers, supporting roles, school or non-profit partners.
